Poetry by Poe

Teacher Page

This webquest was designed to use in correlation with a poetry study unit.  Edgar Allan Poe, as you know, is also known as the father of the short story and the pioneer of detective stories so other webquests could be designed to address those genres.  Because of the vast range of his writing and of the information available out there, this webquest is limited to his poetry, and only four of them at that.  Although, additional exploration and supplementary reading could be assigned in conjunction.

The three activities included in this webquest are intended to address three areas of literacy.  The structured note-taking guide is intended to aid in comprehension, the Frayer model activity is intended to emphasize vocabulary, and the diary activity focuses on writing.  The culminating activity provides the student with limited choices in how they wish to present what they have learned in synopsis form.  All of these activities should be familiar to the student before this webquest is initiated.

Also worth noting is that the section of the webquest that investigates the death of Edgar Allan Poe is presented in a "mysterious" way.  If you have any students that are overly sensitive to that type of setting and atmosphere, you may want to consider an alternate assignment here.
