WebQuest Geology
Process
1. First, you will be assigned to groups of two.
2. Next, you will search the internet on the following sites: Smithsonian Museum dept Mineral Sciences, Mineral Town, Rock Hounds, and Rocks for Kids. You will pick two different rocks from the attachment on the task page.
3. For each rock, you will find out what classification it is (metamorphic, igneous, or sedimentary) and use further classification if the rock is igneous (plutonic, volcanic) or sedimentary (mudrock, sandstones, carbonate rock). For example: This rock is Sedimentary;sandstone. You will also find out what the main components or materials are found in the rock and find another example of the type of your chosen rocks. Finally, you will find out how that type of rock is made.
4. Once you have your rocks (2) and information for each one, you will open Microsoft Word and insert a table onto a word document. The table will have 3 columns and five rows. The heading of columns 2 and 3 will be the name of each of your rocks. The rows 2 through 5 will be titled Type of Rock/Classification, Main Components/ Make up, Other Examples, and How it was made (how the rock is made in nature).
5. You will write a brief paragraph under your table telling why rocks and the study of rocks are important and three facts you learned about rocks.
6. Under the paragraph you will insert a picture of each rock, found on the given websites below, with the rock's name under it.
7. Each group will present their findings to the class, and all the findings will be posted on the News Letter board.
