Webquest Steps

There are parts of this project that you will do as a TEAM and parts that you will do individually.  The resources provided at the end of this page can help you with all of it.

Individual

I. In your journal, answer the following questions:
1. Who was the first western explorer to visit the islands and in what year did he do so?
2. How long did the Spaniards control the island? What cultural contributions did the Spaniards add to the existing culture of the islands?
3. Why did Spanish rule of the island end? What happened?
4. When did the Philippines gain it's independence?
5. What is the national bird of the Philippines? What strange fact can you tell us about this bird?
6. What are the major ethnic groups of the country?
7. What are the major languages spoke in the country? What effect do you think this has on the country?
8. Name one unique festival held in the country and describe it.

II. Include in your journal at least 5 pictures of the following from the Philippines:
a. important people
b. artistic displays
c.
traditional clothing


III. Identify five authors from the Philippines. Two lyricists, two novelists, and one poet:
a. Choose the one you find most interesting
b. Outline the main characters, setting and summarize the plot
c.
Describe what about this work of literature that interests you most and which character you would want to be and why.
d. Find a scene or song which you think is interesting
e. Translate the scene or song into a piece that you can present or act out in class.



Team

I. Fill in the Scavenger Hunt work sheet with your buddy.

II. Choose your favorite facts, one for each of you and then one that you BOTH think is the most interesting.

III. Plan your visual for your facts.

IV. Help each other in translating each others selection. You may use the internet, your teacher/s, book or in-class resources to help with your translation.

V. Rehearse what you want to present to the class, your facts and each translation.

VI. Compile a list of facts, history, vocabulary, trivia, plots, monologues and dialogues you want to use for your presentation. As well as any costume pieces you already have and wish to use.
