Process
EXPLORATION
Get into groups of 4. Each of you is to define the following words: core, mantle, crust, lithosphere and asthenosphere.
You will then use the following websites to do research.
Click the links below that says RESOURCE #1, RESOURCE #2 and RESOURCE #3 and begin!
EXPLANATION
After you have clicked on the websites, share with your team what you observed. After your team has discussed, I want your team to construct a 3D model showing the different layers of the Earth's Internal Structure. This is a group effort, each member will be assigned a role. It is your job to identify who is going to be the Leader, Recorder, Time Keeper and Errand Monitor. Each person in your group is to present your 3D model to the entire class.
ELABORATION
You will then learn some fascinating facts about the Earth's Internal Structure. Click play on RESOURCE #4 the youtube link below and turn up the volume. It is okay to sing along to it, I know I did!
EVALUATION
Here is where the students show their 3D model to the class. This will be a fun day to bring in snacks that have layers also to show students the Earth is related to a variety of things. A rubric will be made to evaluate the teams. The following day you can give them a short quiz on what they have learned, off of this site:
