Process

FOLLOW EACH OF THESE STEPS IN ORDER.  DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK WHEN YOU HAVE A QUESTION.

1.  You will be working with your assigned cooperative learning group.  Each of you will have a role in the group.  First you must decide who will have each job.  Try to choose the best person for each role.
Recorder:  this person writes down all information and will type when necessary
Data Keeper:  this person keeps all papers and information organized in a folder
Picture Patrol:  this person searches for graphics or photos to be used in the presentation
Time Keeper:  this person keeps track of time, schedule, and keeps everyone on task

2.  First your group needs to come up with a list of 5-8 questions that a person who has never heard of chocolate might want to know.  Examples: where did it come from, how does it grow, can it be eaten, when did it come to the U.S.
Keep in mind that as you answer your questions, this is information that will be used in your presentation.

3.  Now go to a search engine, such as Google or Yahooligans.  Type in your questions one at a time.  View the websites that come up and write down the answer to your question.  Do this for all 5-8 of your questions.  Be specific in your questions and answers.  Listed below are some good websites where you might find some of the answers to your questions, if your search does not help you.

4.  Each group will conduct a scavenger hunt using the worksheet provided. This will help you find some interesting historical and trivia facts to add to your presentation. The worksheet gives you the website where all answers will be found.  As you record the answers, think about how the facts can be used in your presentation.  The worksheet is found in the resource section at the bottom of this page.  Also listed is the website found on the worksheet.

5.  When your scavenger hunt worksheet is completed, your group will need to create a presentation about chocolate.  You may use Power Point, create a video interview, or a brochure.  Remember to include the answers to your questions about chocolate, as well as some trivia facts that you discovered on the scavenger hunt. Try to make it exciting and fact-filled. Think about what you would like to know about a new food.   Post your presentation on the class wiki.

6.  Finally, each of you need to find a chocolate recipe that you can download or print to be shared with the class. There are some websites listed below to help you find a great recipe.  Post your recipe on the class wiki.  Be sure to check out other group's recipes and presentations.

7.  Have fun learning about chocolate!  YUM :-)
