Day 1- decide group jobs and begin research on island life-

As a group, decide who will complete the following tasks:

·        Captain- This student is in charge of seeing to it that the group is organized, gets started on projects quickly and everyone knows what to do.

·        Monitor- This student will keep track of time and keep the group working smoothly.  This student also sees that the group has the supplies and resources it needs.  The monitor is the only person who can pull the captain aside and remind him/her that s/he is not doing his/her job if the captain is off task.

·        Recorder- This student sees that the group has all the information it needs.  This student takes necessary notes are taken or that information is copied from a website and saved.  This student has the added responsibility to make sure that the team’s work is original and not plagiarized.

·        Reporter- This student is in charge of reporting the group’s accomplishments.  When the group presents a final product, the reporter is in charge of seeing that it gets done on time and well.

**Every group member is responsible for active participation throughout this assignment.**

 Research the Native Americans of the Chumash tribe which were believed to have traded with Karana's tribe.

Note what the tribes use for daily living and begin answering the questions on the task page. You will document your learning with illustrations, diagrams, or photos. These items will be included in your final presentation.

Day 2- Land, water and climate research

Research the geographic location of San Nicholas Island. Describe the land, water and climate using at least 5 of your science terms and 2 social studies terms.

You will continue to answer the questions from the task page. You will document your learning with illustrations, diagrams, or photos. These items will be included in your final presentation.

Day 3- Begin your final presentation

As a group, decide which communication tool would best display your information. You may choose from Power Point, Photostory, MovieMaker and Voicethread. Make sure you answer the 6 task questions of the assignment. Then explain, using your research information and sources, how and why your group decided on each answer. You must document where you found each answer and include that information at the bottom of each page or at the end of your presentation.

Begin your final presentation.

Day 4- Continue final presentation

 Continue working on final presentation.

Day 5- Finish Up!

Finish creating PowerPoint, Photostory, MovieMaker, Voicethread (multi-media) presentation.                                                                                                             

Day 6- View Final Presentations!

Each group will present their presentation to the class.

As a class discuss the presentations and how they connect to Language Arts,Social Studies, and Science themes.
