Snakes WebQuest
Process
Step 1: Your teacher will pair each student with a partner to work on their WebQuest. Each pair
of students will take turns using the Internet and recording data.
Step 2: Each pair of students will select one of the snakes listed below. You will be able to
explore different sites to gather information about your chosen snake. These sites will give you information on where snakes live and what they eat. Working with your partner, go to Resource 2, and print out the questionnaire. Answer all the questions.
The snakes your teacher has chosen are:
Western Rattlesnake
Copperhead Snake
Smooth Green Snake
Common Garter Snake
Step 3: Learn some snaky vocabulary words. In order to fully understand the WebQuest, your teacher has selected four words to learn and understand their meaning. Go to this website http://www.quia.com/jg/39818.html to find the words and their meaning and to play a fun game of concentration. These words are:
snake
reptile
habitat
cold-blooded
Step 4: Create a small poster about the life cycle of a snake
Now your teacher wants you to learn about the life cycle of a snake. Use this website to learn about the snake life cycle. Print out this graphic organizer to help you write down ideas for your drawing.
Step 5: Are snakes beneficial for our environment? Check out this website to find out how snakes help our world.
Step 6: Writing assignment. Each of you will print out your own copy of Resource 3 and write a few interesting facts you learned about your snake. Remember to use proper sentence structure.
Step 7: Now you have become snakes experts. Your teacher will give each of you some modeling clay to create your own snake. Use the information you gathered to make your snake.
Step 8: After you have finished making your snake model, have some fun with your partner and click on the Tree Snake Puzzle link above.
