  • Your team will split up the following tasks:
    1. Notetaker
    2. Web Navigator
    3. Typer
    4. Speaker/Presenter

After you have decided who will be doing each job you will then navigate through the following links to brush up on your skills. Make sure you split up the work to make it fair.

!!!If you and your partner turn in the note sheets accurately completed you will recieve 5 bonus points toward the final project!!!

  • ***START LEARNING HERE***

  • Watch this movie and take some notes.  Both partners need to watch the movie but you only need to turn in one note sheet.  The movie goes pretty fast but you can pause and rewind the video if you need to.

Use the "Video Notes" sheet attached at the bottom of this web page.

Use the the attached form called "Other Weathering and Erosion notes" to record your information from these websites.

Weathering

  • Read this section on Weathering.  It describes the many ways that rocks can be weathered.  Do not worry too much about the specific types of chemical weathering just know that there is a such thing as chemical weathering.  In your notes make sure to include the major types of weathering that you read and hear about .

  •   Here is another resource on weathering.  Focus on the beginning for the basics but read on for a more in-depth description.

  • Watch this BrainPOP video movie on weathering (awesome, another video!)

Erosion

  • Read this section on erosion.  It describes the many ways that materials can be eroded. Focus on the beginning of the article for the basics but read on if you are interested.

  • Watch this BrainPOP video on Erosion (Sweet, can't ever get enough video!)

Weathering and Erosion

  • By now you have probably figured out that some forces cause both weathering and erosion.  This site gives more information about that.

  • These sites show some really cool pictures of the products of weathering and erosion.

  • The following movie is an example of a story athat involves weathering and erosion and how if formed the Grand Canyon.  This could be kind of like the story you would write if you joined the creative department.  Also remember that you can use this for notes too.

Stopping weathering and erosion

  • Use a search engine such as Google.com to find ways people have come up with for controlling weathering and erosion.

  • You may also want to look at this wikipedia entry but it is a challenging article to read and understand.

**When you are done with note taking, ask the teacher for the quiz and complete it. You must pass the quiz before going on.**

Now that you are ready you will go to the customer's files and pick a picture that you and your partner would like to use.

1. The first thing you and your partner should do is to decide on what type of environment you see.

(some examples might be: dry and hot, wet and hot, wet and mild temperatures, dry and cold).  Try and be specific because it can help you later.

2. The next thing you both should agree on is what forces of weathering have occured here.

3. Then talk about what forces of erosion have occured here.

4. Talk about what the land looked like before weathering and erosion occured?

5. Discuss how the land became what it is in the picture?

6. Discuss ways you could slow down or stop the erosion from happening.

7. Write your report and your story and check to make sure they both use the same facts.

8. Use the attached checklist to make sure that you have all of the necessary information included in your report and story.

9. Get ready to present your information to the class.  You will read your story and be able to answer any questions that the audience has for you.
