Step 1: Before you begin to learn from the Library Fairy, please view these 2 videos about the difference between nonfiction and fiction: NonFiction and Fiction Video 1, and NonFiction and Fiction Video 2.

Step 2: The Library Fairy explains that the Fiction section (make-believe) section of the Library is organized by alphabetical order, by the author's last name, and Everybody Plaza is organized in this way too. ALL make believe books are shelved this way. True books, or Non Fiction books are organized very differently. Watch this presentation Mrs. G. put together: The RA Library.

Step 3
: Oh, no! You've forgotten how to put things in ABC order! Watch this to refresh your memory: A Lesson on Alphabetizing.

Step 4:
Now it's time to practice your shelving skills. Go to this website: Mrs. Lodge's Library, and play the game - practice putting Fiction books in the right order.

Step 5: Now you are curious about Non Fiction. You heard from the Library Fairy that Non Fiction is organized by numbers. It's called the Dewey Decimal System. The Dewey WHAT???? Read about Alien Bob!

Step 6: Who is this Dewey guy? Watch this:  Melvil Dewey.

Step 7: Now it's time to practice your Non Fiction shelving skills. Go to this website: Mrs. Lodge's Library, and play the game, now practicing putting Non Fiction books in the right order.

Step 8: The Library Fairy thinks you are doing an awesome job! Before she leaves for the day, she wants you to do one more thing. get a worksheet from Mrs. G.  Go to the Non Fiction section of the Library, and write down the Title of one book that you might find in each of the 10 Dewey sections.

Step 9: Hand in your sheet to Mrs. G., and take a look at 'The Dewey Rap'!
