Playground Design Tasks

Be sure to complete each task in the following order.

Also be sure to complete one task per day in order to meet your customer's deadline!

Day #1

Today you will start researching the available features for your playground design on the Lowe's website.  The website can be found in the resources area below.  Before you start researching please make a decision about who will bethe computer expert for today and who will be the notetaker for the day.  Your roles will switch each day. 

Tasks that need to be accomplished today.

1.  Visit the Lowe's website and find 6 different playground equipment features you think your customer will like.  Remember they have two girls ages 6 and 10. 

2.  After finding your six features, copy and paste the features to your playground web ideas.  The web can be found in the resources area below.

3.  Record the prices of the features on your web, you will need this information for the remaining tasks. 

DAY   #2

Today you and your partner will be putting an estimated cost of the playground together for your customer's approval.    For this estimate you will need to round all of the prices to the nearest $10.00 and all the costs together for you estimate before submitting it to your customer.

Tasks to complete today:

1.  Print off the playground estimate page found in the resource area below and fill it out using the web you made yesterday.

2.  Watch the Brain Pop video found in the resources area below to review your rounding skills.

3.  Next, you will need to round the price of each item to the nearest ten dollars to get the most accurate estimate for your customer. 

4.   After all materials have been rounded you will need to add them to get the final estimated cost of the project.

Day #3

Congratualations!  Your customer has approved the estimated cost.  Now your customer has requested an illustration of what the new playground will look like.  You will need to draw  a detailed illustration of your playground design.  Be sure to label all of the features you included in your estimate. 

Task to complete today:

1.  Complete an illustration of your playground design.

2.  Neatly label your six features that you included in your estimate.

3.  Be sure your illustration is neat!  All erasures are cleaned up, lines are drawn with a ruler, and the illustration is fully colored.

Day #4

Wow!  You really impressed your customer with that illustration!  Your customer has given the go ahead for you to build this playground in his backyard.  Before you grab your hammer  you will need to give a final and exact price to your customer and accept payment.

Tasks to complete today:

1.  Print off the final cost/receipt found in the resource area below. 

2.  Fill in the final cost paper carefully and accurately.  You will need to use the exact prices found on the Lowe's website.  You may refer back to your web from day one for this information.

3.  Carefully add the cost of all items.  Both partners need to add independently then check each other's work carefully.

 Day 5

Job well done!  Now that you successfully completed your first playground design and made your first sale it is time to advertise!  Make a Glogster poster advertising your skills and services at playground designing.  Be sure to take a picture of your playground illustration and upload it to your Glogster poster to show an example of your work.  Your poster should be neat, include a photo of your illustration, and persuade new customers to purchase a playground from you. 

Tasks to complete today:

1. Take a photograph of the illustration of your playground.

2.  Watch the Glogster tutorial if you need a refresher on how to use Glogster.  The tutorial can be found in the resource area below.

3.  Design a Glogster poster advertisting your skills and service as a playground designer.

4.  Upload your photo illustration to your Glogster poster.
