Our Journey with the Pilgrims

As a class, we have read Thanksgiving on a Thursday, If You Sailed on the Mayflower in 1620, and If You Were at the First Thanksgiving.  We have also watched William Bradford and the First Thanksgiving. 

You will now complete the following activities individually and as a group.

Tasks:

This is a group project.  Working as a group, complete the following tasks:

1.  Explore the websites linked to this page and research the questions for your group. 
2.  Use your prior knowledge, what you have learned in class, and what you have learned from your Webquest to answer the questions listed for your group. 
3.  Open the PowerPoint slide and save it as your name in your project folder on the P drive.
4.  Using your PowerPoint slide, compose a paragraph that answers the questions listed for your group.

Group #1:  The Pilgrims

As a group, focus your research on the pilgrims and answer the following questions:
-Who were the pilgrims?
-Why did the pilgrims want to move to the New World?
-How many pilgrims traveled to the New World?

Group #2:  The Mayflower's Journey

As a group, focus your research on the Mayflower and answer the following questions:
-What kind of ship was the Mayflower?
-How many people sailed on the Mayflower?
-What hardships did the pilgrims face on their journey to the New World?  (describe at least two)

Group #3:  The New World

As a group, focus your research on the New World and answer the following questions:
-Where was the New World?
-Where did The Mayflower first land?
-Where did the pilgrims decide to make their new home?
-Why did they choose this place as their new home?

Group #4:  Plymouth Colony

As a group, focus your research on Plymouth Colony and answer the following questions:
-Where was Plymouth Colony?
-How did the pilgrims plan and build their town?
-What hardships did the pilgrims face while building their town? (describe at least two)

Group #5:  The Indians

As a group, focus your research on the indians in the New World and answer the following questions:
-Who were the Wampanoag Indians?
-Who was Squanto?
-Who was Chief Massasoit?
-What things did the pilgrims learn from the indians?
-Did the pilgrims and indians get along?

Group #6:  The First Thanksgiving

As a group, focus your research on The First Thanksgiving and answer the following questions:
-What did the pilgrims call their first Thanksgiving?
-Why were the pilgrims and indians celebrating?
-Who was at the harvest festival?
