In 1607, a group of English settlers that had been granted permission from King James I, set sail for the shores of what is now Jamestown, Virginia.  Shortly after their arrival to the James River, the settlers faced many difficult obstacles.  It would not be an easy endeavor, but the English settlers were steadfast in their mission to create, and sustain, life in the New World.  This persistence would ultimately lead to the settlement of the first permanent English colony in America.  So also with their arrival to Jamestown would begin the history of this great nation.
