During the years of 1955 thorugh 1968, the United States had been experiencing a movement plagued with racial discrimination. This movement became known as the Civil Rights Era. Throughout the era, leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. led the African American people through discrimination and strived for equality with his tactics of civil disobidience. It's leaders like these that have shaped America into what it is today.
