Focus: This mini-unit of work on Australian folklore is part of a term's broader focus on Australia and Australian culture. It is an integrated Humanities unit that covers many learning areas such as: History, English, Communication, Personal
learning, ICT, Interpersonal
relationships and Thinking
processes.

Objectives/ Goals: To spark an interest and fresh understanding about the culture and history of Australia by exploring the more interesting and novel facts/fictions of Australian culture.

Rationale: As this mini-unit looks at the more interesting aspects of Australian
culture it would therefore be used early in the term's work to engage
the students about the subject of Australia's culture and history.

Teaching Pedagogy: This unit of work is framed using the E5 instructional model. The content of the lessons are designed in a constructivist manner using multiliteracy as a pedagogy. Use of ICT is prominent throughout, as is the use of multiple semiotic systems making it a well balanced and effective unit of work.
