In this Webquest...
This webquest is devoted to teaching students about motion. In this webquest, you will be focused specifically on average speed and how it interacts with distance and time.

California
State Science Content Standards
Grade 8 Physical Science - Motion
1. The velocity of an object is the rate of change of its position. As a basis for understanding this concept:
b. Students know that average speed is the total distance traveled divided by the total time elapsed and that the speed of an object along the path traveled can vary.
c. Students know how to solve problems involving distance, time and average speed.

Learning Objectives
After this webquest, students will be able to identify the equation for calculating average speed which is defined as the total distance traveled divided by the total time elapsed. Students will be able to explain that an object's average speed can differ at various points as it travels along a path. Additionally, students will be able to solve problems that require them to calculate an object's distance, time and average speed.
