Sixth Grade Medieval Scavenger Hunt
Process
BEFORE YOU BEGIN, SCROLL DOWN TO THE ATTACHMENT SECTION AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE AND DOWNLOAD AND PRINT YOUR JOURNAL. YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE THIS IN ORDER TO DO THE SCAVENGER HUNT...IF YOU HAVE TIME, DECORATE THE TITLE PAGE AFTER YOU FINISH THE FOUR TASKS. GOOD LUCK!
1. Your first task is to find two Gothic cathedrals. Using the links below (if links are inactive, copy and paste them in your browser) find the name of two medieval cathedrals. IN YOUR JOURNALS YOU WILL NEED TO INCLUDE THE NAME OF THE CATHERDRAL, CITY, COUNTRY, AND DESCRIBE TWO ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS OF THESE CATHEDRALS.

2. Your next task is to find images of clothing that people wore in medieval times. Draw two different people in different stations in life. Such as a knight and a laborer. Use the following links to find images of medieval people. IN YOUR JOURNALS WRITE DOWN WHAT TWO PEOPLE YOU ARE DRAWING, BRIEFLY DESCRIBE WHAT THEY ARE WEARING AND INCLUDE TWO PENCIL SKETCHES.

3. Your next task is to develop designs to create the stained glass windows at the cathedral. In order to do this you will need to learn about how stained glass windows are made and view windows from different locations. Use the links below to find window examples. Each link contains many images which may interest you. IN YOUR JOURNALS WRITE DOWN THREE LOCATIONS WHERE YOU VIEWED WINDOWS, IN TWO SENTENCES EXPLAIN HOW STAINED GLASS WAS MADE IN MEDIEVAL TIMES AND INCLUDE A SKETCH OF ONE OF THE WINDOWS THAT YOU VIEWED.

4. Finally you need to find imagery for the magnificent stained glass windows that will design for the cathedral. What are some common themes that could be included in your windows? Religious themes, family crests, geometric designs, everyday life, nobility, and mythology to name a few. Use links from the other tasks if you would like, as well as exploring some below to help develop your designs for two different windows that RELATE TO MEDIEVAL TIMES. IN YOUR JOURNALS CREATE TWO SKETCHES OF YOUR PROPOSAL FOR THE STAINED GLASS WINDOWS.
