Focus:
This WebQuest exposes students to the educational system and how it operates. The objective is to help students learn about inequality in schools, proposed changes to improve schools and develop skills to formulate their own opinions.

Objectives/Goals:
It would be best for students to be familiar with government and law-making processes and terminology prior to this lesson.

  • Students given real-life example of discrepencies between schools in New York on Internet
  • Individual, group work and class discussion will take place 
  • Students will realize that federal, state and local governments all play roles in schools  
  • Students see that it is okay to have different opinions

Resources:
Prerequisite Skills: Comfort level with the Internet
Time Required: 1 day
Technology Needs/Materials Needed: It is best that each student have his own computer to use, but computers can be shared in small groups if necessary.
