Where's Big Ben?: a trip around historical architecture of London
Task
The Task
Students task is based on organizing their own travel
agencies. They are expected to advertise their offer of trips around London
very heavily. They should be aware that the number of possible customers
depends on the quality of their services.
This task encourages students to search for
information about well-known historical places around London. Students must
carry out some basic research on the curiosities about the best spots to visit.
The class should be divided into 3 groups. Each group
will have to prepare a poster (a sort of commercial) with a short description
of the places worth visiting, and a leaflet with an offer of an organized trip
around London. Those groups are sort of makeshift travel agencies. They will
have to prepare some short presentations, in order to sell their products and
persuade others to choose their offer.
Here is
the list of the monuments and the most famous places in London:
1. Trafalgar Square
2. National Gallery with its famous stores of paintings
3. Picadilly Circus
4. Hyde Park and Buckingham Palace
5. St. James' Park
6. the Houses of Parliament
7. Big Ben and Westminister Abbey
8. Tower Bridge
9. the Tower of London and St. Paul's Cathedral
10. Fleet Street
11. Covent Garden
The
groups:
Group A: focuses on Trafalgar Square, National Gallery, the Houses of
Parliament, Big Ben
Group B: focuses
on Westminster Abbey, Hyde Park and Buckingham Palace, St. James' Park
Group C: focuses on Fleet
Street Piccadilly Circus Covent Garden
However, students
are mostly welcome to study the map and add their own propositions.
