The activity presented here is an investigation of supersaturated sodium acetate.  Sodium acetate is a chemical commonly found in foods, such as salt and vinegar potato chips, as well as cosmetic products.  Sodium acetate is interesting in that it easily, or at relatively low temperatures, forms a supersaturated solution.

Your assignment is to make a saturated solution of sodium acetate.  Initiate precipitation. measure the temperature of the resulting solid sodium acetate.  Finally make some unique formations with the sodium acetate and take a picture.  You must also include a one page paper regarding your observations on the behavior of supersaturated solutions and the nature of exothermic reactions.
