A 22-year-old male is believed to have killed an officer and himself on the Virginia Tech campus. On December 9, 2011 Ross Truett Ashley shot Officer Crouse. After the shooting the gunman is believed to have stolen a vehicle and parked at Virginia Tech. Police are still investigating this case. No motives or connections to the victims have been found.
This tragedy is closely followed by the tragedy at Virginia Tech campus last year when a gunman opened fire and killed 33 people. Efforts have been made to provide counseling and some students are raising money for the family of Officer Crouse.
The incident began around 12:30 and many students on campus were held in classrooms for up to six hours. Parents and students are complimenting Virginia Tech officials for keeping them informed after a less informed tragedy the year before.
