Your task is to create a well-researched commercial
on how becoming a vegan affects the environment. The commercial should
inspire others to want to alter their current eating lifestyles for the
betterment of self and of the Earth.
Your commercial will be the result of research into:
• What a vegan is,
• the importance of being a vegan,
• what veganism is,
• how vegans positively affect the earth, and
• how eating animals is negatively affecting the earth.
The commercial will initially be presented to your peers. As a class we
will determine the best three to battle against the other classes. Science
teachers will then choose the top three of all of the classes to move on to the
final competition. An expert panel including the school principal, science
chairperson, a natural doctor, and local environmentalists will view the top
three commercials.
Literacy Skills
During the student’s investigations they will write a list of terms in
their journals that they are unfamiliar with, have uncertainty about, see numerous
times, or simply caught their attention. As a class we will talk about all
of the words and come up with a list of key terms that all learners should be
familiar with. A word wall will then be gathered for the rest of the
unit.
