Shape and Color Activities
1. Spaghetti Shapes!
Materials:
Dry Spaghetti Noodles
Mini Marshmallows
Each student group will receive a handful of noodles and a handful of marshmallows. Their job is to create two 2D shapes and one 3D shape using the materials. They will stick the marshmallows on the ends of the noodles to create the desired shape.
2. Button Match-Up
Materials:
Large Container of Brightly Colored Buttons
Graph Paper
Markers
First, dump the bottoms onto the floor. How many colors do you see? Pick out one of each color and put it aside. Now, match up the colors in the button pile to the colors that you pulled out. Count each color and graph onto graph paper.
3. Color Search
Materials:
Toilet Paper Rolls
String
Paper
Stapler/Hole Punch
Make some binoculars by covering two toilet paper rolls with colored paper, stapling them together, making two holes and attaching a string to go around your neck. Give the binoculars to the child and ask him to be a "shape hunter." Have him find red, etc. and come back and tell you what they found. Continue this game using other colors.
