First decide as a group who is going to research each area of concentration: BACKGROUND, AUSCHWITZ, INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNT, GENOCIDE TODAY. 1 BACKGROUND: You will need to learn some of the background events concerning Nazi Germany and the Holocaust. Take some notes, copy pictures you want to use in your power point and be prepared to give some specific details, perhaps include a timeline. Go to: www.holocaustchronicle.org 2. AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENEAU: You will go to an interactive site that has the largest extermination camp, Auschwitz and it's secondary labor camp, Birkeneau. Here you will be able to interact with the map and see what the camp was like, what remains today, and get an idea of the immensity of the camp and it's operation. Prepare some notes, copy pictures, and details of what the Auschwitz-camp experience was like. Go to... www.mchekc.org/curriculumunits.htm and then to MAPPING AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENEAU. 3. INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNT: You will be able to personalize the Holocaust experience by tracing what happened to one of the Holocaust individuals. When you get to the home page, click on the left side bar entitled Holocaust Encyclopedia and then at the bottom of that page go to Articles A-Z Browese all ID Cards. You will want to read several accounts and then make one selection. Copy the picture, get the relevant details of the individual's life, a map of where they lived perhaps, etc. Go to: http://www.ushmm.org 4. GENOCIDE WATCH: You will be discovering genocide that has occurred since the Holocaust. You may want to select several to give us a broad range or you may want to focus on just one and do more detail on it, this choice is yours. You will want to copy some pictures, a world map to show us where this genocide has occurred, take some notes on the details you will need to give us an understanding of the event(s).
