SO NOW IT'S TIME TO GET TO WORK!
FIRST- you will divide into four groups of six. Each person in each group will have a specific concentration out of the six. The concentrations are listed A through F:
A) What provides for most of the energy consumed in the United States? Who uses the most fossil fuels and what these fossil fuels are used for? Be specific. What countries use the most and how and why are they being used for energy?
B)How are these industries contributing to global warming? Be specific. What is global warming? How do we know there is global warming occurring? What types of activities cause the most global warming? How much does using fossil fuels like coal, gas, and oil contribute to global warming?
C)How are oxygen levels depleting? Where does oxygen come from other than trees? How much oxygen does the ocean supply? How is oxygen generated in the ocean? How have oxygen levels changed in the ocean in the last hundred years? How does burning fossil fuels change the ocean's chemistry?
D)What can businesses that rely on fossil fuels change to create a product that still creates power without harming the environment? Could they develop a similar source of energy without using oil, gas, or coal? Do research on alternative forms of energy.
E)What can the government and our represenatives do about this global situation? Can the government give tax breaks to companies who are going "green"? Is this already happening in the world? Can the government encourage clean energy by creating stricter laws? How can we make sure these laws are enforced once they are made?
F)What local businesses, households, community centers, and people in your neighborhood could improve the way they use energy? Are there any businesses in your neighborhood that need to change for the sake of our environment? How can each household and person help create less carbon dioxide right now? Are there any factories in your city? Find out what type of pollution they are emitting and what impact that has on the air you breath?
EACH TASK WILL REQUIRE A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF RESEARCH, INVESTIGATION, AND INQUIRY.
YOU WILL BE USING THE INTERNET TO FIND INFORMATION THAT IS APPLICABLE TO YOUR CONCENTRATION THEN YOU WILL SHARE ALL THAT YOU DISCOVERED WITH YOUR GROUP MEMBERS TO CREATE A FINAL PROJECT OF A BROCHURE AND A POWER POINT SO THAT YOU CAN PROMOTE YOUR PLAN OF ACTION VIA MAIL, DOOR TO DOOR, AND EMAIL.
I WILL ATTACH SOME WEBSITES ON THE REFERENCE PAGES TO GET YOU ALL OFF TO A GOOD START BELOW. THE REST IS UP TO YOUR OWN DEDICATION, TIME, EFFORT, AND FOCUS. YOU WILL BE GIVEN CLASS TIME TO CONDUCT RESEARCH ON THE WEB AND SYNTHESIZE INDIVIDUALLY AND AS A GROUP. HOWEVER, THE BULK OF YOU RESEARCH WILL BE CONDUCTED AFTER SCHOOL. YOU SHOULD BE CONTACTING YOUR FELLOW GROUP MEMBERS WITH YOUR FINDINGS AND IDEAS VIA EMAIL OR INSTANT MESSENGER.

STEP ONE: INQUIRE, RESEARCH, BRAINSTORM. REPEAT THIS PROCESS AS LONG AS NECESSARY. See Reference page 1 for BRAINSTORMING GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS.
STEP TWO: IN WORD START WRITING DOWN YOUR FINDINGS AND ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS THAT YOU WERE ASSIGNED. Document where you found your information as well.
STEP THREE: IN CLASS SHARE YOUR DISCOVERIES WITH YOUR GROUP MEMBERS AND WITH ME. ASK FOR FEEDBACK FROM EVERYONE INVOLVED AND OUTSIDE SOURCES SUCH AS PARENTS, FRIENDS, OTHER TEACHERS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
STEP FOUR: PRESENT YOUR INFORMATION IN A WORD DOCUMENT OR YOUR OWN POWER POINT TO YOUR CLASSMATES. SUPPORT YOUR CONCLUSIONS WITH PRINT OUTS, WEBSITES, DATA, AND PICTURES FROM THE WEB. See Refernence Page 1 for Power Point layouts that you can download for free.
STEP FIVE: AS A GROUP USE YOUR INDIVIDUAL FINDINGS TO CREATE AND COMPREHENSIVE BROCHURE AND POWER POINT WHICH ACCURATELY SUPPORTS ALL OF YOUR CONCENTRATIONS AND ADDRESSES ALL ASPECTS OF THIS PROJECT. YOU WILL BE DOING THIS DURING COMPUTER LAB AND AT HOME. YOU CAN COMMUNICATE TO EACH OTHER VIA EMAIL AND SEND EACH OTHER ATTACHMENTS OF THE POWERPOINT AND BROCHURE TO EDIT AND COLLABORATE TOGETHER. STEP SIX: SHOW YOUR BROCHURE AND POWER POINT TO THE CLASS VIA THE SMART BOARD. ANSWER QUESTIONS. GET FEEDBACK. REFINE YOUR BROCHURE AND POWER POINT TO BE SENT TO BUSINESSES, STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATIVES, AND THE COMMUNITIY.
STEP SEVEN: SEND YOUR BROCHURE AND OR POWER POINT IF ABLE TO 10 LOCAL BUSINESSES AND 20 COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, CHURCH, SHCOOL, OR OTHER ORGANIZATION.
