Task #1 Our first task will be to explore where we live. We will look at the different areas you and your classmates live in. You may be surprised to find out that you live in a much different way than some of your classmates. First, take paper, markers, crayons, or whatever else is needed. Draw a picture of where you live. Include what your house looks like, the colors, plants, trees, and anything else special about your home. Give your drawing to your teacher. Next, visit this website….. http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/education/sysm/landscapes/southern_uplands/guidebook/index_intro.shtml Explore, Have fun!! Learn about different places people live. Finally, read the book We Imagine, We Draw Landscapes by Parraman Editoral Team with a friend. Task #2 During the holidays, many families share time together around the dinner table. Read the following link about cooking during the holidays. http://www.childstoryhour.com/storiesfood1htm.htm After you have read the poem, I want you to go home and discuss with your family an important dish that is special to you during the holidays. After you have found a recipe, write it down on a sheet of paper about why this recipe is special or important to you and your family. Task #3 We are going to make a “Traditions Book” that contains every student’s description of their favorite holiday, how they celebrate their birthdays and a special tradition that you do with your family. First, we are going to read the book Just Me and My Family by Mercer Mayer. After we read the book, I want you and a buddy to go online and visit this website and read about the favorite holidays of some young students. Click on this link to read about their favorite holiday! http://www.otan.us/webfarm/emailproject/abc.htm Using the information you just read, I want you to write about your favorite holiday, just like the young students did. After you have written about your favorite holiday, I want you to write about how your family celebrates your birthday. Do you go out to eat? Do you have cake and ice cream at home? Do you get lots of presents? Remember these questions when you begin to write. With the picture you brought in of your family, I want you to write about a funny memory that includes all members of your family. Next, I want you to write about one tradition that is special to you and your family. All of the writings I collect are going to make up our class “Traditions Book”. Everyone will receive their own copy of our classroom’s “Traditions Book”. |
