Day 1 Research

1. Use the links provided to answer the following questions:

Why do we celebrate the Fourth of July (Independence Day)? Why is it significant?

2. Each group member will use the History Frame graphic organizer to organize the information.

3. As a group, you will choose one fact, from each graphic organizer, for each question to include in the PowerPoint.

Note: Each group will create a PowerPoint to address the research questions in days 1, 3 and 5. Each student is responsible for creating two slides. The PowerPoint must be at least 12 slides including a title and reference page.

Day 2 Flag Recreation

Throughout the span of the Revolutionary War, a number of flags were created for various events.

1. Each student will pick a flag and recreate it using the materials provided in the classroom.

2. Provide the name of the flag and a description of its meaning including colors and symbols.

3. Compare and contrast this flag to the current US flag in a short paragraph.

4. Attach all three pieces to a poster board for display.

As a group, work together to complete these three tasks:

1. What is the Revolutionary War? What is its connection to Independence Day and the American flag?

2. Use the following links and the information you have gathered so far to answer these questions.

Day 4 Map Making

1. Each student will research one of the battles of the Revolutionary War.

2. You will create a map of the location of the battle using symbols to identify valleys, mountains, bodies of water, trees, etc.

3. Include a description of the event, people, who won the battle, a picture, and the name of the location (city and state).

4. Each student will select their battle by pulling a piece of paper from a basket.

Day 5 Economics

1. How did people earn money during the Revolutionary War?

2. Use the following link to answer the question.

3. Each group will choose one method of work or employment to include in the PowerPoint.

4. The remainder of the time will be used to complete the PowerPoint.
