Activities /Tasks:

  1. Read LiveStrong article.  (posted below in resource section)
  2. View YouTube videos of top performers of each style. (posted below)
  3. Open the link to the Essential Questions Activity.  Post answers to the blog from the link below.
  4. Read and study the rules of the shot put from the link below.
  5. View YouTube instructional videos on how to put a shot.
  6. Read from the resources below to learn how to throw the shot.
  7. Interview a high school or junior high school track coach knowledgeable of putting the shot. 
  8. Participate in a throwing session demonstrating both styles.  Produce and edit a video of this session.
  9. Measure and record performances to a Googles Doc from the link below.  Make a link to this document on the blog.
  10. Upload the edited version of the video to YouTube.
  11. Embed the video on the blog.
  12. Post your conclusion on the blog.

Procedures:
  1. Five students may sign up for this activity.  Other track and field activities include the long jump where you will compare the hitch kick technique with the hang technique or you may make comparisons to high jumping, baton exchange and start techniques.
  2. Students may divide the research for answering the Essential Questions and report back to each other before posting to the blog.
  3. Students will each participate in the various roles when it comes to throwing, marking, measuring, recording and videoing the throwing session.
