Governments have long been a part of the world's history. Some civilizations employed kings and queens, while others dictatorships or anarchies. Do you think a form of government is needed? What do you think would happen if nations did not have a government. Study and discuss the type of government your civilizations used. Also, check out the link in your resources below to find a comprehensive list of government types as well as the type used in countries around the world.

Building a Nation:
  1. As a group, decide how you will govern your people. Because there are so many types of government, you may choose from the following recommended ones or choose another of your liking: Anarchy, Monarchy, Dictatorship, Republic, Theocracy, Communist, Totalitarian

  2. Now that you've established your government, you will need to create laws to govern the people. Hammurabi is an ancient Babylonian king that is noted for establishing some of the earliest laws for    regulating government and people. Familiarize yourself with some of his codes. Afterward, create  ten laws that you will enact to govern your country. Try and create laws for many topics such as: religion, education, taxes, theft, etc. In addition to the laws, describe the consequences for breaking them. Will there be a trial or will one punishment fit all incidents of breaking a particular law?

**Be sure to note your cool vocabulary! Also begin to collect pictures you will use to present your country. Graphs, tables, and other graphic organizers may be helpful.
