Institutionalized racism is racism that becomes a habit, or is expected. When laws were created that prohibited certain people from certain jobs, places, or events, that was institutionalized. Now it's not legal to have a racist law because of the 14th Amendment, but certain assumptions some people influence the types of jobs people get and the way people are treated. To understand institutionalized racism, learn about the racist laws that were once in effect after slavery ended.
