Essential Question:

Why did the Seminole Indian Tribe fight so hard to protect their land?

In Florida, there exists only a trace of the Seminole Indian tribe that once flourished throughout the Southeast. Though we encounter the Seminole people here in Florida in our daily lives, either in our community or in our schools, we are not all versed as to the hardships they endured in the past just to live their lives. From a time when they were being killed off to their success today, we can all learn to appreciate their struggles, strengths, and ambition to stand up for what they believed. Today, the monetary success has provided thousands of jobs for Floridian residents.

Students will gather information individually and will design a map, timeline, or art work that represents the Seminole Indian Tribe. They will work collaboratively to assemble all the information in a cohesive fashion. The information attained will include:

Who were the original Seminoles? (American History)
Where did the tribe originate from? (Geography)
What struggles did they experience throughout history that has affected their lives today? (World History)
Why were they willing to die to protect their land? (Civics/Government)
When were they able to settle peacefully? (Geography)
How did they persevere and succeed? (Economics)
