Art lovers will argue that art
brings beauty to our surroundings and provides occasions for intellectual and
emotional reflection. But those who don't appreciate art see it as unnecessary
and frivolous; at any rate, certainly not something that tax dollars should support. A piece of art is
divine to one man and ridiculous to the next. Revered artists of the past may
not have produced anything more amazing than countless others, but through
happenstance become icons. In a time when school budgets for art programs are barely existent, we need to ask ourselves the critical question; what is the value of
art?
