What do the doctors say?  As a class, we will watch the video in the resource area of this page.  Then our class will gather information from the link at the bottom of the page to answer the following questions:
  1. What is an eating disorder?
  2. What happens if you have an eating disorder?
  3. If you have an eating disorder, can you get better?  How?
  4. Why do people get so skinny/so big with an eating disorder?
  5. If you know someone with an eating disorder, can you catch it from them?

Surveys report...

  • 1 in 2 American women are on a weight loss diet.
  • 40 percent of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade girls want to be thinner.
  • 80 percent of 10 year old children are worried that they will become fat.
  • 70 percent of 6th grade girls said their worry about shape and size began when they were 9-11 years old.
  • In a study of children aged 8-10 years old, approximately 50 percent of girls said they are unhappy with their size.
